RYAN'S TRIAL.-JURY DISAGREE.

I In Ryan's trial for murder, the jury, after being locked up all night, could not agree to a verdict. They were equally divided on the issue. The jury were discharged, and the Court adjourned till the 29th April. mm=mm , CHANGES IN RAILWAY .DEPART^ MENTS. The Government have decided to appoint Mr Blackett Engineer-in-chief of the constructed railways for the North Island, and Mr Baird, districts engineer of Dunedin, to the same office in the South Island. These officers are to perform duties formerly devolving upon Carruthers.
