MELBOURNE, March 14. In the Legislative Council, Mr Jenner stated this afternoon that he would not proceed with the motion re the Conference. Mr Cuthbert gave notice of motion for Tuesday next to move the second reading of the payment of members. There is no probability of it passing at present. The prospect of a compromise has ceased. The Ministry intend adjourning the Assembly next week until the first week iv July.

SYDNEY, March 14. Mr W. Swanson (?), now in Sydney, Mi i been offered the office of Deputy .Higil Commissioner of Polynesia, to be stationed at Samoa, and also to act as British Consul there.
