ARRIVAL OF THE HERO.

The s.s. Hero, Captain Logan, arrived from Sydney ye3terday evening. The following is the report:—Left Sydney and cleared the Heads at 730 p.m. on the 9th inst. During the first 21 hours had fresh favouring winds, and then strong head wind, with confused sea until daylight on Friday morning, the 13th : subsequently moderate head wind and fine weather throughout. Passed the Three Kings Islands at 5"45 p.m. on the l!th, anrt arrived in harbour at 720 p.m. last n:ght. Passr-ngers: Saloon—Mrs Sprague. Miss F. Dwyer, Mr and Mrs J. P. Howard, Mrs W. Lovell, and Misses Lovells (2), Major Gordon, Mr E. J. Cox. Mr Wm. Berry, and 12 steerage. —Croickshank and Co., agents.

The s.s. Taranaki, with the southern portion of the English mail on board, left Onelmuga at noon yesterday. Passengers :—Mr and Mrs McCartney. Mr3 Downes, Mr Hori Karaka (M.H.R.), Mrs Hori Karaka and son, Mr G. M. O'Rorke. Messrs Marshall, Atkinson. Waymouth, Bacon, Hodgson, Nation, Downes (mail agent), and 7 in steerage.—Henderson and Macfarlane, agents. The ship Famenoth has been laid on the berth in London to load for this port.

The barque Glenlora, and the ship City of Auckland are to return to this port from London as soon as possible. The City is probably on her way by this time. The s.s. City of Sydney left for Sydney at 10 o'clock la3t night, after having put out over 203 tons of car/go for Auckland and the South, and taken in 250 tons of coal. Passengers booked at Auckland : Mrs Robinson. Messrs .A. It. Blackwood. J. F. Richardson, J. W. Preece, J. E. Ralfe. Steerage: Messrs E. McKenny, C. Herbert, W. Eberney and family (3), John Renwiok, Rushforth and family (3), Mrs Cqllingwood, and 19 saloon and 28 steerage original passengers from San Francisco and Honolulu.— Owen & Graham, agents. The s.s. Hero is advertised to leave for Sydney on Wednesday, at noon. The schooner Kate McGregor left the Manukau for Wellington yesterday, with a cargo of timber.

The baroue Stag from Lyttelton made her number this morning, and rounded "the North Head this aftenioou." She brings a fall cargo of southern produce. The brig Vision, Captain Hawkins, loft Sydney for this port on the 9th inst., with Mr and Mrs Farrel and Mr 0. McDonald as passengers- Her cargo consisted of 130 rifles, G kegs powder, 8 rjackage3 hardware. 73 coils rope, 6 bales canvas, 3 anchors, 78 oars, 7 casks tar, 40 bundles oakum, and sundries.

The brig Syren left Sydney for this port on the 3rd inst.

The s.s. Emu left Adelaide for Auckland on the same day. The schooner Queen, Captain Jones, arrived from Hokianga this moraine. Cargo :20 totara logs, 12 hides, 3 cases empty bottles,? cases gum, 4 tons gum.—Niccol and Hendry, agents. DEPARTURE OF THE ANN GAMBLES.

The fine barque, Ann Gambles, loaded for London by tho New Zealand Shipping Co.. took her departure this morning at'll o'clock on the top of the tide with a light S.E. breeze. Before she got under weigh she received on board at the last moment 5 boxes of gold, and 23 bars of silver, shipped by the Bank of New Zealand. The schooner Fairlie left early this morning for the Thames with part of her original cargo from Lyttelton.

The s.s. Hawea, Captain Wheeler, arrived alongside the Onchunga Wharf at 0.50 p.m. yesterday. Passengers: Mrs Winter, Misses Finnigan and Arden, Messrs Bassett, Kinny, Stainton, H,untor, Spairo, and,3 in the. steerage. We are indebted to Mr Wm. Dougherty, purser, for files. The Hawea leaves at 1 o'clock to-mor-row, instead of 12 as previously advertised.
