PONSONBY RATEPAYERS MEETING.
There was a large attendance of rat payers of the above district in attendance at the Ponsonby Hall on Saturday evening. MrW. J. Rees was voted to the chair. Mr J. A. Tole. chairman of the late .Hoard, re«d the balance-sheet, and stated that if any ratepayer desired information on the items of the balance-sheet, he or the treasurer would explain them. The following was then read :—Receipts : Rates collected, £771 is; subscriptions, £G ; from Colonial Government, £oil Is lid ;on other accounts, £303 3s sd; sundries, £13 is ; total. £l7iO 133 id. Expenditure: Forming roads, £271 17s 7d; metalling and channelling, £199 10s 6d ; brides and culverts, i£22 ISs 7d; other works, £C>oS 10s 7d; commission, £59 Ss 2d; salaries and rent, £35 15s; printing and advertising, £22 13s 6d ; learal expenses, £51 2s; sundiios, £!J3 19sSd; balance, £360 13s 91; total, £17-10 13s 4d, The auditors report was also read by Mr Tole: " We hereby certify that we have examined the above statement of accounts and lind the receipts and payments made are correct in their sum totals with the books of the Board, but we have no means of ascertaining the correctness of the classification of expenditure as stated in above account, .the vouchers not being sufficiently explanatory." He then moved the adoption of the report, which was seconded by Mr Jakins Mi-> W. Thorne moved, " That this meeting receive the f-tatenient read as correct, and request the auditors to sign it as sicti, so that n 1 difficulty should arise w'th regard to ttie subsidy." Mr Macindoe s ;conded. Mr Boardman thought that both the original proposition and the ameniim nt should be withdrawn, in order that Mr Jakins and the auditois should hare"time for consultation. On being put to th-; meeting the original motion \vas~carried. Mr Masefleld moved. "That the rate be Is in the £ on the annual value." which was seconded by Mr Field, and subsequently carried. The meeting closed with a vote of thanks to the chairman.
A meeting of the creditors in the estate of Robert Clnlners will be held in the Supreme Court at 11 a.m. on Wednesday.
