THE Press Agency and other telegrams received last night giving the neAVK of the Goah.ead being ashore at Gisborne held out hopes of the vessel being floated off by this mom ing, but Aye are sorry to say these expectations have not been realised, and, according to the latest message, the steamer lies in a very precarious condition. Ci iptain Cooper is in command, but at the ti me of the imishap it is most likely the pilot Avas on board, in which case the captain aa 'Oiild escape responsibility. The folloAving are the telegrams recefrved by the A.S.P. Co. on the subject : — GISBORNE, 2nd May, 10.5 a.m.

Goahead Avent ashore on South Spit going out, heavy sea on. Will lighten her at once. Will teport progress during the day. —William Adaie.

1 p.m. _ Captain Chrisp thinks when the cargo is out, he will get her oft*Avith to-night's tide. —W.ADAIR.
