PUBLIC HALL AT KUMEO.
The settlers on the Knmeo Flat, Klverheftd. having erected a Public Hall for the u» of the district, as Church, School, and any other public purpjses. Mr John Berry, the contractor having finished the hall in a neat workmanship-like manner the hall w opened on I'aesday evening by a soiree at which over one hundred persons were P«?ent The tables were furnished br Mesdames Boord, Lamb, KusseiJ, Deacon Berry, Barnes, and Hunter, and presided over by theie ladie. The blessing having been asked by the Bey B Somerville. of the Whau, and Slice done to the good things provided, the tabUs were removed, and the busine*. of the evening c«mmenced. Mr John Lamb (Eiverhead) was roted to the chair and in hla address referred to tne progress the dLtrlct had made siace he nr.t rode over it Messrs J Oottle. H Hunter, and A Dilworth. being the only settlers; now the place was dotted over with farmsteads He congratulated the settlers on the erection of the hall, shewing «i% we o re. *°* behind the age, and Indicating » desire to have their

Mr Hunter was called upon to read the Financial Statement, Which shewed that the subscriptions and donations had amounted to £7i ; £41 had been paid to the contractor on account, and the balance of .£33 in the hands of Mr Boord, the treasurer, will be sufficient to defray the whole cost of the building. It wus moved by Mr Lamb, and seconded by Mr W Sussell, that the Financial Statement be adopted, which was carried by acclamation. The Bey E Scinervillethen addressed the meeting. He congratulated the settlers on erecting the hall and opening it free of debt, and urgediihimto further progress in Sabbath services and Sabbath-schools now that they had a place of their own to meet in. Mr Boord has Riven one acre of land for a site for the nail. The musical department was well sustained by the Misses Deacon, Sharpe, Lamb, Boord, Barnes, and Bartlett Mesdatnes Davis, Leigh, and Vassey; Messrs J. W. and D. Eussell, and C B. Davis. At the close, Mr A Deacon proposed a vote of thanks to the ladies who supplied tho tables. Mr Somcrvjllemoved a voto of thanks to thosa who had entertained them with the music. Mr Barnes moved a vote of thanks to the Chairman, referring to the interest he had taken with others in getting the hall completed. The hall was then cleared for dancing, which was kept up with great spirit for some hours afterwards.
