Mr R. Arthur held a clearing-out sale of sewing machines to-day, the property of Messrs Baird. The following are the average prices :— Simpson's family sewing machines, £3 7s 6d to £5 10s each ; medinm dressmakers' do, £3 15s to £6 10a. No 2. Manufacturers do, £5 5s to £5 103; pare sperm oil, 93 per gallon ; needles, 9d to Is 6d per doz; Clark's extra quality cottons 143 to 18s per gross.
Messrs B. Tonks & Co, held a large sale of American chairs, ex Syren, at their mart today. The whole of the cases were sold at satisfactory prices. Mr G. W. Binney held a produce~sale today at the Corn Exchange. Sydney maize averaged 4s 5d to 43 7d ; barley. 33 Id; hams and bacon, 7d to 7|d ; and Hawkin's tart fruitß, Bd.
