Boat Accident.
A narrow escape from drowning occurred on Saturday evening last, through the capsizing of a boat belonging to Mr Engall, in which that gentleman and a youth were enjoying a sail. It seems that the two had been sailing about for some time in the boat, when Mr Engall noticed that something was wrong with a rope in the bow. He sent his attendant to remedy the defect, but while doing so, his foot slipped and he fell heavily against the sail, and the boat at once capßized. Mr Engall who is a good swimmer, at once swam towards the youth who was sinking, and after a good deal of perseverance, succeeded in getting him on to the bottom of the boat, but he fell off and Mr Engall again plunged into the tide and brought him back to the boat. Here they managed to hold on. The accident had been observed from beveral steamers, and boats were at once despatched from the North Shore Ferry Company's steamer Tainui and the s. s. Argyle. The Tainui's dingy picked them up and they were afterwards transferred to the steamer Devonport, and landed at the North Head.
