SCHOOL ENTERTAINMENT.

Last evening was a happy one with the pupils and patrons of the High School, Svmonds-atreet, under the superintendence of Mrs. Shayle George. The entertaiDmeat consisted of a bazaar, speeches, prizes, feastin? and dancing. The articles of the bazaar were the work and contributions of the young ladies, and were generally admired. Two valuable pictures were raffled for during the evening, one a beautiful landscape painting by Mr Hoyte, and the other a steel engraving after Sir Edwin Landeeer. The framework of leather was by Miss Richardson the teacher in this department of the school. The singing was highly creditable, under the tutorship of Mr. Brown. Ber. Dr. Kidd, at the request of Mrs. George, informed the audience of the results of the exanimation of the pupils, which was highly creditable to the establishment, riir George Grey, who was received with cheers, then handed the prize-books to the scholars. After the business had been satisfactorily disposed of, dancing commenced, which was kept up with spirit until midnight, Madame Moller presiding at the pianoforte.

CITY WEST.—No. 2 SCHOOL. The annual entertainment and prize distribution in connection with this school took place last evening under the presidency of Mr Gorrie. Mr H. H. Lusk gave the prizes. The distribution of prizes having taken place, a lengthy programme was presented consisting of recitations, ballads, and speeches. The report of the progress of the scholars was very favorable. The school commenced with 77 scholars, and now the number was 312, showing an increase of 235. The headmaster of the school is Mr Harrison, and the lady assistants Misses Taylor, Longmore, and McMillan. The following is the prize list:— Fibst Division. Boys—Andrew Parker, Alexander F.
