A man named Baker was brought up to town under arrest to-day, from Kaglan, having been committed for trial by the Resident Magistrate there on the charge of cutting and wounding his wife at Raglan. Baker was formerly employed on Mr Young's run between Raglan and Waikato Heads, but was discharged for misconduct. His wife remained cooking for the men employed on the run. Baker come to Auckland, but returned to the run last Tuesday. He was passed by the mailman on the road from "Whatawhata. Upon reaching the house where his wife was engaged a quarrel ensued between them, arising out of the husband's jealousy, and he drew his pocket-knife and inflicted a wound on her throat.
