CITY COUNCIL WATER SUPPLY.
The City Council has printed for public information certain clauses of the Corporation
Waterworks Act 1872, affecting the public liability in connection with the water supply. Under these clauses persons are prohibited from supplying or permitting any one to take water who is not supplied by the Council, under a penalty of £20. Water rates must be "paid at intervals as appointed by the Council, which| has power to cut off the supply from those in arrears and levy the cost of cutting off together with the amount of rates due upon the defaulter. It is the duty of the council on the application of any owner or occupier to lay on service pipes to his building at the expense of the owner or occupier, but the applicatien must be accompanied by a deposit sufficient to cover auch cost. The tap or stopcock must be siipplied by the occupier and kept in good repair so that the water shall not be wasted, under a penalty of £20 The clauses contain various other important conditions.
