Painful Accident.
This morning a lad named Jno. Wilkinson met with a nasty accident on board the Elsinore, which was very Dearly depriving him of the use of his right hand. The schooner is lying alongside the Flechero at the new we:-tern T. and Wilkinson was engaged assisting in the work of sending up baskets of manganese from the hol<3 of the schooner to the ship. While attaching the hook of the "fa'l" to the basket the word was given to the men above to haul and they began to haul before he*1 had got bis hand clear. The consequence was his fii'gers were crushed between the hook and the landie of the basket. The fcr-ps were taken clean iff Iwo of bia fingers and two cb*r fingers were badly mangled. The lad bore the pain slo:c----ally. He was lifted on board the Flechero and laid down in the cabin where Captain Carlyon, who is well-known as being skilful at surgery, dressed the wound with great care and bestowed every possible attention upon the sufferer. The boy fainted from the pain while the wound was being examined, but is now doing well.
