Fatal Accident at Huia.
Thomas Marks, a young man who arrived per Dover Castle, was drowned on Sunday morning when attempting to cross the Huia Creek, near Mr. E. Gibbons' mill. His body was brought up to Onehunga on Sunday night to await an inquest. Be had been in Mr. Gibbons' employment, and was attempting to cross from the mill to the opposite side of the creek on a dangerous piece of rock under the dam, where there is a great rush of water, when he lost his life.
Several persons have had narrow escapes at the same spot. On bringing the body ashore, it was taken charge of by Constable Green, who at once communicated the facts to Mr Barstow, with the view to a coroner's inquest, which probably was held this afternoon. The deceased is a young man, only nineteen, a native of Tyrone, Ireland, and came out by the Dover Castle. He is reported as of steady habits, and had been in the employ of Messrs Gibbons and Co. a fortnight.
