(From our own correspondent.) This day.
Another Cospatrick Disaster Prevented. The Waimea arrived in very good order throughout, and the immigrants seem superior. The doctor and matron reported well of them. The ship had a narrow escape from fire, two of the boys being discovered with naked lights plundering the cargo in the lower hold. They were handed over to the police to-day. August 29, latitude 44 S. longtitude 69 E., passed through a quantity of wreckage, apparently cabin fittings framed door, and Venetian blinds varnished were distinguishable. Had a good westerly wind across the Southern ocean. Clarke and Stanley, two boys belonging to the ship Waimea were brought up to the Police Court to-day, charged with embezzling cargo, also carrying a naked light m the hold during the voyage. The first charge was dismifsed the second was proved. The Bench commented severely on tne danger of such a practice, and sentenced each prisoner to 3 months hard labor.
