PRINCE OF WALES THEATRE.
The comedy in three acts, written by Mr Gilbert, entitled "Pygmalion and Galatea," was the performance of last evening at the Theatre. The characters of the comedy are taken from the mythology of Ancient Greece, and is associated with a love story, in which the supposed sculptor, I"y malion (Mr Lawrence), marries Uynisca (Misa Morgan). His great work "Galatea" (Mias George) according to his prayer becomes animated with life, and her first feeling is the common one of love ; she finds herself full of warmest sentiments towards the sculptor which results in numberless disasters. The play in its completeness was well sustained. Mr Collier as Lencippe, and Miss Rogers as Myrene, played their parts with much satisfaction, Mr. Sam Poole represented Chrysos, with much humdur, and Daphne was rendered truthfully by Miss Searle. The play possessed a a great deal of satire in relation to people and events of our own age. A lively extravaganza, "The Happy Man," closed a capital evening's entertainment. The beautiful comedy, founded on Greek story will be repeated this evening, and to-morrow evening, by special desire, there will be a
grand fashionable night and one of the fineesb of modern dramas introduced. Mr. De Lias is determined that no effort on his part shall be wanting to make the drama worthy the support and countenance of the citizens of Auckland. In consequence of thß immense success of that eminent artiste, Mies Carry George, in the character of Margaret Elmore in?'' Lives Sacrifice, "Jand in obedience to repeated applications from citizens, the magnificent play of the "Lady of Lyons" will be performed to-morrow (Friday) evening in which Miss George will appear as Pauline; Mr. Collier as Claude Melnotte, and Mr. Laurence as Colonel Dumas, supported by the whole strength of the company.
