ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.

The usual meeting of this Society was held this afternoon ia the Museum Buildings Present : Messrs. Murdoch (ia the chauV ' Dr. Campbell, and Messrs. James Burtt and* I Thomas Macffarlane. The minutes of the previous meeting ' having been read and confirmed, the financial; statement read by Mr. Cheeseman (tieere- ■ tary) shewed that the receipts for the past month were £408 Is. 9d., and expenditure £129 19s. lid., leaving a credit balance of : £278 Is. lOd. The Secretary informed the meeting that all the license money had been received : amounting to £510, about equal to the ; amount of last year. HAKES. discussion then ensued on the scarcity of hares, when the Secretary was instructed to communicate with persons in different *• localities with a view to catching a few to ■ make up the deficiency. STARLING. It was agreed that a further engagement f should be made with &tr Kingsford to catch starlings and other birds for distribution in" 1 the Auckland districts. SIR GEOHGE GREY. Mr Burtt proposed and Mr T. Macffarlane • seconded, "That a vote of tbanks be given £ to Sir G-aorge Grey for his kindness in allow--1 ing the Society's man to catch quail at the Kawau, and giving him food and lodging. ;; A member hoped there was no political significance in the motion, and on being assured there was not, the vote was carried unanimously. The remaining part of the business was understood to be upon trout, but ■which it I was impossible to hear, as the speaker spoke I in so low a tone. . * * ;
