LEAH THE FORSAKEN.
As previously announced, the Prince of Wales Theatre will be re-opened this evening at the hour of eight, and the pathetic and deeply interesting drama of Leah, the Forsaken, will be presented to the audience. We presume that many of our readers are familiar with the plot and details of this remarkable .play in which Miss Bateman made a name some years ago, at the London Adelphi Theatre, and the performance of which drew crowded houses night after night through one season. The play written to vindicate the humanity of the Hebrew race, as Shakespere has don c, and Sir Walter Scott, in the splend id heroine of "Ivanhoe," whose principles were as invincible as those of the Leah, which Miss Carrie George will represent this evening. Although as we have said, Leah is not new to Aucklanders, still every original genius gives a newness and a freshness to what may be deemed old, in fact it is the distinguishing power of genius to impart new life and beauty to scenes of the past which have slumbered, or have been folded in the vestments of cold neglect until the dramatic poet has clothed it in immortal beauty and the artiste, with consummate ability and a keen perception of truth, has presented it acceptable to the listening world. The cast of characters is superior to moat of the companies that have appeared at this theatre in bygone years; not only has Mr De Lias secured those celebrities referred to by us in a previous isase of this journal, such as Misses George and Rogers and Messrs Burton, Kingston, and Laurence ; bat he has retained the leading actors of the Auckland Dramatic or Collier company, and these unfading stars.will shine in the drama to-night. Miss George will appear as " Leah " Miss .Rogers as "Anna" Miss Holt as "Rose," MiBS Searle as "Dame Grochen," Miss Bushe as " Sarah." While Mr. Collier will represent "Nathan," Mr Sweeny " Father Herman," Mr. Samuel Poole, Dr. Ludwig, with most, of the popular favorites whose names and faces are equally familiar to lovers of the histronic art. On Monday evening, the sensational drama of "Janet Pride" will be presented,
