Agency.
The Government intend proposing a bonus tor paper manufacture. Mr Auld, junr., will be associated with Mr Andrews in the Home agency.
Peninsular Bailway Bill
The Peninsular Railway Bill passed in an amended form. The Company has to seek the authority of the Assembly to use Crown lands. The Star urges that the line should be compelled to act as a feeder to the trunk line, and not allowed parallel to it.
The Alleged Legal Extortion. The Guardian contradicts as f oundationless the statement re a lawyer having demanded *n increased fee before going on with his defence of a prisoner. The case referred to was Patrick Long, manslaughter at Green Island last year.
Harbour Dues
The proposed harbour tax on steamers is a half-penny per ton. The mistake was in an official paper. The charges have yet to be sectioned by the Government.
