A straight run of the proposed distance has been carefully jjrepared by Mr Brown, the manager of the gardens, and his assistants. To secure against fouling, the course s divided by a rope running up the centre of the entire length, so that each man is obliged to keep on his own ground. The start is fixed for three o'clock, atd as that hour appioaches there are a considerable number of spectators present, most of whom came out by the two o'clock train. Mr W. J. Marks acts as starter, and Mr Alfred King, of the Evening Star, as referee.
