April 21. ; Compulsory liquidation has been ordered in the Australian direct Steamship Company. Arrived : Merope, City of Auckland, and Charlotte Padbury from JSTew Zealand. April 24 In the House of Commons Dr KenealleyV motion for the appointment of a Royal Commission of inquiry into the Tichborne trial was rejected, 434 to 1 after a practical debate in which Mr Disraeli and Mr Bright, powerfully oppessd the motion. Kenealley's speech was principally confined to a weak attack on the alleged misbehaviour of the Judges. The lock-out in South Wales has been withdrawn, a reduction of 15 per cent WM rejected. The price of wheat is drooping, owing to large expected arrivals. The wool market is quiet but prices continue firm : hemp dull, 50 bales of New Zea-, land sold at £17 to £21.
