Curious Church Squabble
A curious church squabble is going on. The Rev. George Foster, the incumbent, has been fourteen years resident in the parish. The congregation are trying to get rid of him, but he refuses to resign. The bishop has been appealed to, who urges resignation, and threatens to cancel his license. It is expected the parishioners will withhold his stipend. It is the first case of the kind in the colony. The Game Season. The game season is unusually late, but birds are very plentiful since the late rains. Four guns bagged 266 head near Timaru on Monday. Black swan in great numbers, flights of from 120 to 200 frequently passing over towards the lakes. They have been allowed to be shot for the first time this season.
