THE ORPHAN HOME.

The fifteenth annual meeting of the above excellent and well-conducted institution was ' held last evening, at the Home, Parnell, the. • Bishop presiding.. In opening the business, the Chairman remarked with satisfaction rf that the Home was not full, and that fewer claims were being made upon it at present than was usually the case He attributed this to prevalent prosperity. He spoke in terms of praise of the interest taken in the institution by the late Superintendent, Mr Williamson. He also said they were much indebted to the lady collectors, to Dr Goldsbro' for medical attendance on the children, to Mrs Cameron, the matron, and to the hon. secretary and treasurer. Miss Burns, the late matron, was also alluded to in terms of praise. ,The speaker wished to correct a misunderstanding that existed, namely that the Home was only open for orphans. This was not the case. Mr R. C. Dyer read the annual report which shewed that the number of children afc present in the Home is 19 boys and 16 girls. The Board of Management hoped the Provincial Government would avail itself of the Home for the accommodation of children who could not be provided for at the Home for Neglected and Destitute children. Mrs Scarlet had been appointed school-mistress and Mrs Cameron as matron and both were giving satisfaction. The measles had been prevalent in the Home but through the exertions of Dr Goldsbro there had been no fatal case. Special thanks were returned to the Hon. Seymour Egeiton and Captain La Patourel for the concert given in aid of the Home ; to Captain Logan for the amrial excursion of the s.s. Hero ; to Mrs Wallis, for giving an entertainment to the children at the North Shore; and to Captain Kails, of the City of Auckland, for an entertainment aboard his ship.—Mr Walker read the balance-sheet, which shewed receipts £1,143 3s 2d, and a balance on the Bank of New Zealand (after paying all expenses) of £435 19s 3d, and in the Savings Bank—£46 3s Bd.—On the motion of the Rev. Archdeacon Maunsell, seconded by Mr Ton'ks, M.P.C., the report was adopted.— On the motion of the Rev. C. M. Nelson, seconded by Mr R. Lusk, a resolution was passed urging increased exertion among the subscribers and supporters of the Home. On the motion of Rev. R. Si Hassard, seconded by Mr Doonin, a vote of thanks was passed to the ladies of the various parishes. The following gentlemen were elected the board of management for the ensuing year :— Messrs Pierce, Walker, Goldsbro', Doonin, McKinstry, and Dyer; Messrs Barton Ireland and J. Batger, auditors. Votes or thanks were unanimously passed to Mr R.C. Dyer, hon. treasurer, and to the chairman;
