POINTING AN ARGUMENT WITH A ROYAL BENGAL TIGER.
I eemembee once when General Schenck and self were stumping in Southern Illinois then called Egypt on account of its dense darkness, we were annoyed by a show that kept with us, and drew away our crowds. We compromised at last with the. proprietor of the fat woman, live anacondas, the calf with two heads and an assortment of tails, with other wild beasts, to the effect that we would divide the time.
When he exhibited in the morning we would address our fellow-citizens in the afternoon, and vice versa.
The arrangement worked beautifully. Speaking from the cage of the roval Bengal tiger, whenever the interest flagged, the orator had only to stick his cane in at the animal, through a hole at the top, and stirring the beast up to a few lively growls, arouse the voters to the perilous condition of the country.— Ameri-
