Lamentable Death of a Child.
An inquest was held this afternoon, before Dr. Fhilson, Coroner, and a jury, at the JKob Roy Hotel, Freeman's Bay, on the body of the infant child of Mrs Barton, of Willowstreet. From the facts elicited it appears that the mother of the child had been more or leas mentally afflicted for the last 12 years; that she was the %vife of William Baroon, a labourer; and that on Thursiay, the Bth inst., in a state of restlessness, she turned her sister-in-law ouc of doors, using fetrange menaces and threats. A Bhort time after, within the space of an hour, Barton's little girl, who had been playing with other children, came indoors, and to her astonishment fouud her mother in bed, and a newly-bonie dead baby on the floor.
At the inquest this afternoon the jury was sworn and viewed the body. Dr. Bayntun then stated that as it did not appear whether there was anyone present at the time of the birth or not, it would bewell that the mother should be in attendance. He suggested that the inqueat should bo adjourned. This opinion was coincided in by the Coroner, and the inquiry was accordingly adjourned till Thursday next.
