March 8.

The mail from Australia via San Francisco have been delivered to-day. The Australian mails by way of Torres Straits were delivered on the Ist instant.

March 6

The New Zealand Loan has been allotted, and there have been dealings in the scrip at a quarter per cent, premium.

In regard to wool, Mr C. Balme reports that there has not been any perceptible change in value since the opening of the present series of sales. Competition is keen, and scoured wools are in good demand.

The wheat market has advanced ls to ls 6d per quarter.

Dr Manning has been summoned to Rome to receive a cardinalate.

March 10.

Lord Cairns obtained permission from the House to withdraw the Judicature Bill, and it has been withdrawn accordingly.

March 12.

The new French Ministry is formed :—M. Buffet, Minister of the Interior ; M. Dufaure, Minister of Justice ; M. Say, Finance Minister ; M. Walloon, Minister of Public Instruction ; M. Meaux, Minister for Commerce. The other offices are unchanged. The Emperor William of Germany is ill.
