For the cause that lacks (insistence, lor t!:e wrong i- at nte.ls resistance, For the future in the distant1*;. And thfi good that we can do.
The temporary service on the Trans-Pacific route is now fairly under way, and we are able to supply the time table for the first half-year. The promptness with which on this as on previous occasions the Australasian Steam Navigation Company comes to the rescue, speaks volumes for the resources of that, the most successful of all the steam companies launched in these colonies. Steadily and securely it has advanced step by step, first around the whole Australian coast, and then boldly across the Pacific, taking up others' failures and giving entire satisfaction, where there was nothing but disappointment before. If that company obtains the permanent contract for this service to which it now aspires, it will be a well merited reward to true colonial pluck, and will afford a surer guarantee of satisfaction to passengers and the > public service than will be ever afforded by the big names from afar with which we are ao often awed. The following ia the time-table, aa published in the Sydney Morning Herald: — Leaves Sydney: City of Melbourne, January 16 ; Macgregor, February 13; Mikado, March 13; Cyphrenes, April 10; City of Melbourne, May 8 ; Macgregor, June 5; Mikado, July 3. Leaves San Francisco : Mikado, January 5 ; Cyphrenes, February 2 ; City of Melbourne, March 2; Macgregor, March 30 ; Mikado, April 27 ; Cyphrenes, May 25 ; City of Melbourne, June 22.
