LAUNCH OF THE IONA.

This fine steamer, of which we gave a full description yesterday, was launched soon, after one o'clock to-day, at Messrs Niccol'and Son's yard, at the North Shore. A large concourse of spectators witnessed the launch, which was a complete success.

The s.s. Eowena left Russell at noon yesterday, with W. wind and smooth water, and arrived in Auckland at 5 o'clock this morning. Passengers:— 3Hr and Mrs James Macfarlane, Mr, Mrs, and Miss Bryers, Mrs Parker, Mrs Hardiman, Rev. Samuel Williams, Captßeckerman, Messrs Griffin, Matthews, Dodsham, Wing, Kemp, Yarborough, Callaghan, W. McLeod, O'Ccnnell, Morley, Hackett, Marsh, Brown, Donovan, McLeUan, and three in the steerage. We are indebted to Mr Stodart, the purser, for his usual favours. .

The barque Bella Mary left Newcastle on the Bth instant, with 375 tons coal. The brig Hebe," which started from Launceston with potatoes for Auckland, but had to put into Sydney and discharge her cargo, was about to sajß for Lyttelton on the departure of the Wonga Wonga. Her.cargo consists of- 180 bags malt, 40,000 feet timber, 46 piles, 1,000 spokes The French transport Le Vire is to be open for public inspection to-morrow. Steamers are to run to and from the ship during the afternoon, commencing from one o'clock. The Custom House offices weie to-day shifted from their temporary lodgment in the Insurance Buildings to then: permanent home in Fort-street.

The schooner Peerless seems likely to continue her ill luck. Disabled in the Lyttelton Eegatta, it is now very probable she will not reach Auckland in time to compete in the Eegatta, on the 29th instant. Up to yesterday she was windboiind at Lyttelton. The brigantine Agnes arrived during last night from Lyttelton, in ballast. She has cleared oiit for Napier^with a cargo of timber to be shipped at Mercury Bay.

The Isabella, brig, cleared out to-day for Newcastle in ballast.

The schooner Golden Me, from Russell, brings 110 tons coal. ,
