Lurline in the Midsummer Handicap In the Melbourne Midsummer Handicap Woollomai, the winner, carried 7st 51bs ; Lurline, Sst 31bs ; Newbold, Bst lOibs ; distance, If miles. It was done in 3mins. 13 sees. When near home Woolomai, Lurline, and Newbold drew away from the rest of the field, Newbold soon falling back, leaving Lurline with the lead. A fine 6nish ensued, vVoolomai finishing three parts of a length ahead. The Argus says the mare was not well ridden, or might have won. Chinese respect of Law. The body of the Chinaman drowned by flood at Matatapu, was on Friday recovered by his mates after two days search. He fell off the wooden crossing and was drowned in sight of thirty n*en, who were unable' to assist his countrymen. They carried the body 23 miles for an inquest, and the jury commended their conduct.
