ROW ON THE WELLINGTON KACECOURSJS
GILLIES' SCHOLARSHIP IN DUNEDIK.
ACCLIMATISATION OF SALMON.
WELLINGTON.
(From our own Correspondent.) 1 his day. There was an awful row on the course yesterday. The stewards postponed the races because it was raining cats and dogs, and i number who had bees on, and others wk could not come on the following day (having paid for entrance) were mad, and when they found they could not get the stewards to revoke their decision, they Jioo-ed "them heartily, but ihere was no other disturbance. The arrangements made for the public generally are considered a most wretched swindle, and can never be repeated again. If the same is attempted another year the attendance will be poor. The Presbyterian General Assembly was opened lasb night. The sermon was preached by the retiring moderator, the Rev. James Hill. Thereafter the Assembly was duly constituted, and the Rev. R. McKinney, of Mahurangi, chosen to succeed Mr Hill in the Moderator's chair. ■
