POLICE COURT.—This Day.
(Before Dr Home, Justice of the Peace.) STAGGERING HOME. John Noles was charged with drunkenness —he was staggering home through Queenstreet when Constable Maroney assisted him to the station. Prisoner said, as far as his memory would serve him, he believed it was true. Fined 5s and costs. NEVER, NEVEU, YOUR WORSHIP ! Margaret Trick, with a baby in her arms, was charged with being drunk and disorderly, and with breaking eight panes of glass, the property of John Connor, of Lilac Villa, Pamell. On being asked if she was guilty prisoner ' replied "Never, never, your Worship ; quite incapable, sir !" Constable Jackson said that last evening he was sent for, and found prisoner drunk and creating a great disturbance. He did his utmost to persuade her to go in doors, and several times led her into her own abode, but it was all to no purpose. Out she would come, and her tongue would go faster than ever. John O'Connor deposed to prisoner's unwomanly language. She stormed at him, and broke eight panes of his kitchen window, value eight shillings. Prisoner was about to deliver an oration on the doubtful statements of constables, when her baby burst out crying, and the Bench imposed a fine of 10s and costs, and the amount of damage done to Mr Connor's window. THE LADY OF LYONS Margaret Lyons was charged with making a great row in Chancery Lane last evening. Sergeant Major Pardy stated that prisoner
had been several times convicted of disorderly conduct, and vesteaday she was chasing her husband up and down Chancery Lane, until a regular right ensued. Prisoner pleaded as an excuse that she had been away for the benefit of her health into the quiet "country, and the change rendered her joyous. The Bench said that such conduct could not be allowed, and Margaret must pay a fine of £1 or retire to Mount Eden for seven days.
