OLD SUPREME COURT SITE.

(To the Editor of the Evening Star. ) m Sir, —With reference to Mr Darby's claim contained in Mr Sheehan's explanation in relation to the disposition of the old Supreme Court House site, I think the Council will really have moro sense than to sanction any such claim of the kind. Ido not know what Mr Darby's claim may be, or what state of things has "created such a claim, as it is called, but it dofes seem to me monstrous that in the face of the enormous want of funds for education, and the almost iniquitous direct taxation for that purpose proposed in" the recent rating clauses—we should throw away in perpetuity, as far as education and the public good are concerneilj twenty feet?of valuable frontage to Queen and Elliottstreets, equal to at least four thounsand pounds (£4,000), and devote it-to the sole benefit of an individual citizen for private motives, or for the sake of recognising any kind of political adhesion.
