MESSRS. HUNTER AND NOLAN'S RETORT
Horses : There were an increased number entered for sale by auction and although several were not brought forward quite the average were submitted. There was also a little- improvement in the stamp, and prices were maintained, although some few were withdrawn for higher rates. Really good draught stock are inquired for, and young brood mares of this description would find purchasers. We quote —Hacks, from £9 to Lls ss; light harness horses, from Lls to L 23. Cattle were in fair supply. The dairy cows and grown stores were of a very indifferent description, but young cattle were farly represented. The fat beasts ex Go-ahead from . Wanganui were well fatted, and with one or two exceptions came to market in very good order, and met more spirited competition than the provin-cial-fed. At tho opening bidding was rather langjiid, but aa the sale proceeded became brisk, and 26's per 1001b was obtained for top sorts. We quote—Dairy cows, £7 to £9 ss; yearlings and weaned, calves, £1 7s to £2 12s Gd ; two-year-old steers, £4 each. — Sheep : The Newmarket pens were well filled. The stores were of inferior description, and* did not command attention. Ewes sold at. 3*ls_ ; ewe lambs, at 16s ; fat sheep, from 2s to 2s 6d per Sib ; lambs, 113s to ISs, —Pigs were scarce, but in brisk demand at 3d per lb, live weight.
