HIS WORD IS THAT ROARD-MAKING
MUST BE STOPPED.
ALEXANDRA.
This day. Mr Mackay and Colonel Lyon met Rewi yesterday at Kopua.
Mr Mackay allowed no civilians to be present.
Rewi welcomed the party cordially, and said his word was not about Waikato. Manuhiri and Mr McLean would have to settle that. His word was obout road-making, etc., at Taupo and Wanganui. It must be stopped. . Aporo also spoke in a similar strain. Mr Mackay said Mr McLean was put of the country, and he would not perhaps see him for six months.
Rewi said he could wait a year. A dance by the natives, and mounted constabulary going through drill, terminated t he proceedings.
