Captain William Baldwin. * BANKERS: The National Bank of New Zealand. SOLICITORS : Messrs Smith and Anderson. INTERIM SECRETARY: Mr Richard H. Leary. There is no branch of commercial enterprise in New ZeaLvnd which presents such favourable opening for the investment of capital as that of Fire and Marine Insurance. The success which has attended the establishment of the "New Zealand" and the "South British ' Companies is a proof of this. The business of Fire and Marine Insurance is so rapid^increasine that there is ample room for another company in this colony. Largely-increased facilities for covering this class of risks are impers_tively required, and the National Insurance Company is"" lounded to supply this want. This company is not startedin opposition to any of the other New Zealand Companies, but is intended to co-operate with them in fostering the Trade and Commerce of the colony, and concentrating in the country the large capital which is annually drafted out of it by foreign insurance companies. In order to make this a purely colonial company, and to induce a large amount of business through the influence of its shareholders, it is proposed to distribute the shares over the whole colony, and in their allotment to keep in view Uie ability of shareholders to influence business to the company. 40.U0U Shares will be reserved for Otago and Southland, and the remainder allotted to the Northern provinces. The operations of the Company will be conducted on sound principles, and extreme caution will be exercised in the selection of risks. It is intended that the Articles of Association shall provide for the ELKcrio_rOf Local Boards of Directors by the shareholders in chief commercial centres of the colony. The amount proposed to be called in will, it is estimated, make a Sufficient Paid-up Capital to warrant the Company in commencing operations, and it is not anticipated that ani' purthek. Call will be necessary. The Provisional Directors have secured the services of Mr A. Hill Jack, the present Resident Secretary of the Victoria Insurance Company in New Zealand, as General Manager of this Company. Applications for Shares will be received by, the Branches of the National Bank o New Zealand in tUeYarJou provinces, and by I HENDERSON & MACFARLANE, Wj'Qiwea-utrest, Auckland,
