Felix Kabat, the well known broke*', who had absconded, was arrested on a charge of forgery. In twelve months he parsed off to the banks original and forged bills to the amount of £21, C"0. He has been brought up and remanded, bail being allowed in £2l"00. Some of his creditors are entirely ruined. Willan, the chief prosecutor, wept in Court. There are twenty clear ca--.es against him. ' A father horsewhipped his daughter in a Court to-day for preferring a charge of indecent assault against a man. The father was sent to gaol for contempt of^court.
At the Goolwa Show some pedestrian sports took place. The S. A. Advertiser states that the champion runner, A. E. Bird, was upon the ground, and during the afternoon ran.' about three miles and a-halt against three whites and three blacks. Bird ■was beaten by about 50 yards, taking rather under IS mm. to run the distance. The blacks ran very much better than the whites, and one of the former showed excellent pace. When Bird put on a spurt, expecting at once to pass his opponent, he found he had all bis work to do, for the black likewise made a spurt, and on completing his distance was only beaten by a few yards. _ /
