CHATHAM ISLANDS.
By the arrival of the Ocean Wave we have received latest news from tlie Chatham Islands. The crops have been abundant, and live stock thriving. The inhabitants complain that there is not more constant com municatioii with New Zealand both for supplies, and for a market in disposal of thenproduce. A native feast took place on the 7th August, at which invitations were sent to all the European residents. Fine weather prevailed, and there was a large attendance. There was abundance of fare, consisting of meat, fish, and flour, which was divided according to the number of settlements. Speeches -were made, and everything passed off well. Disturbances have since broken out amongst the natives, owing to a land dispute, and epiite a panic appears to have ensued. Steps have been taken to fortify the village, and a meeting of white settlers was held, and it was deemed necessary to send to Auckland for assistance in the event of an outbreak. The rebels are reported as well armed, and they threaten to attack the village on the 12th October. Great anxiety is fe.lt until news can be received from Auckland, and hopes are expressed that a man-o'-war will proceed to their assistance.
