POLICE COURT.

THIS DAY. (Before James Baber, Esq., J.P.) The charges at the Police Court, this morning, consisted of offences of drunkenness and disorderliness. There were twelve names on the sheet, but only eleven offenders, as one of them having been liberated on bail was so over-joyed at regaining his liberty that he again partook of the intoxicating drink, and again fell into the hands of the Philis tines, we mean — police. Half of the charges on the charge-sheet were for drunkenness on the Sabbath, on which day public - houses are closed by Act of Parliament. Six of the offenders had been admitted to bail, five surrendered, and were fined five shillings each and costs, two for being drunk and disorderly wero fined respectively ten shillings and twenty and costs, or an equivalent in " quod." The parties who got drunk on Sunday were fined double the amount that those who got drunk on Saturday night were fined. ' Tho Magistrate asked each of the offenders as he was charged where he procured'the liquor on Sunday. One said he did'nt know, he was drunk; another said "at homo," the third said he could not remember the name of tho house, tbe fourth was a stranger in Auckland, and could give no information, the fifth boldly said "at various places." The last man was a woman, and she said " she only partook of one glass and a half," and she never was so drunk in her life.

This was all tho business
