NELSON.
Friday. Tno "Wellington arrived last night from Picton, and the Phcobo this morning from Taranaki. Major Patton,a well-known Waimca settler, fell down the main hatchway of the barque William Prowsc yesterday, on to a quantity of railway iron. He received serious internal injuries in the fall, and is still lingering on, but his recovery is doubtful.
[From the " Herald."] WELLINGTON. Friday. An inquest was held on Arnott. Pie is supposed to Lave died from effects of strychnine, self-administered. HOKITIKA. Markets rising. Stocks light. Adelaide flour, £14 103 ; oats, 3s 3d. NAPIIE. Maaka is committed for trial. He stated that, To Kooti appointod three, who were bound to destroy those he desired, or else he would kill them. [From the "Cross."] The Hon. D. McLean's positive refusal to join Mr Stafford has decidedly improved the Ministerial chances, and will probably decide several wavering votes. The division will be very close, but the Provincialists are lrkoly to have a small majority. This is still undoubtful, however, The debate will probably last three nights more. It is rumoured that Messrs Webster and Andrew are likely to vote with tho Ministry. Mr Macsndrew supports, and Mr John Williamson opposes them.
