Morice; an article on Presbyterianism; news of the churches; correspondence, arid a large amount of other interesting reading matter. - It is published by Messrs Upton and Co.

We regret to announce that one of our \ oldest colonists has passed away at the age of four score years. Mr William : Powditch died yesterday at the residence of his son-in-law, Mr T. D. Cleghorn, at Epsom, after a lingering illness, which he ibore with Christian fortitude. "Thedays of our years are three-score years and ten ; and if, by reason of strength, they be four-score years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow, for it is soon cutoff, and we fly away." His end was peace. The deceased gentleman was for years a member of the Provincial Council, during part of which time he occupied the position of Speaker. He was very much respected forhii3 exemplary life, and dies greatly regretted. The funeral will take place to-morrow afternoon.

We would call special attention to the conduct of some person or persons unknown, in, the neighbourhood of Mr D. Caley's premises, Queen street; It appears that quanj tities of poison have been laid from 'time to time for the purpose of destroying a few harmless pigeons which frequent 'that part? J; The purpose has been- somejwhat accomplished, as day after day the i birds are seen dropping. The danger ito 'persons' lives is apparently of no {importance in the eyes of the perpetrators :of this wanton cruelty. Some of the children in the locality may eat the. [poison, or as many'of the'birds'are' daily 1 cooked we cannot: tell what'may happen jform such conduct. A sharp look out is Ibeing-kept, and we anticipate that little mercy will be shown to'the culprits if : they are caught.

Another of the course of winter lectures an connexion with the Young Men's Christian Association will be given this evening in the rooms by Mr Gr M Heed. The1 subject will be " On the Ridiculous."

Notice is given by the hon. sec. of the Thames Mechanics' Institute that tho owners of the Golden Crown have kindly consented to convey visitors to the exhibition from Auckland and back at single fares.
