ROBBERY IN PAPAKURA VALLEY.
On Friday last, the house of Mr. John Elismore was broken into and a number of blankets together with a quantity of wearing apparel was carried away. A stranger was seen leaving the. house about 10 o'clock in the forenoon, supposed to be a man looking for work. He was dressed in a blue shirt and moleskin trousers, and carried a swag on his back. Information was given to the police atPapakura, and by the information given Constable Gamble seemed to know the man, and I hear has tracked him as fur as the Flat Bush. The same party is supposed to have been connected with the robbery on Mr. Wm. Walter's farm at Papakura, about two days ago. It would be well for the settlers to keep their eyes upon any lounging characters who are under their notice, as it will be well to aid the police in capturing these depredators. The principal portion of the articles stolen belonged to Mr. Milton the schoolmaster here, who has been deprived of the whole of the wearing apparel he possessed except what he had on at the time. As Mr. Milton has not received any aid from the Board for the seven months he has been teaching the Valley school, it would be but, right to grant him what would have been due to his predecessor, had she still been teaching the same school.— [Correspondent.]
