We are requested to ask those gentlemen who interested themselves in getting up the late entertainment in connection with the Mechanics' Institute to meet to-morrow evening, at eight o'clock, in the library of the Institute to arrange for, the second of the series.

It is notified that Alfred George Howard will make an application to pass his last examination on the 30th inst. Thos. Macffarlane has become provisional trustee in the estate of William James Casely. A meeting of the creditors of Henry Powning Stark is advertised for the 22nd inst. Benjamin Hill will apply to pass his last examination on the 30th inst. The choice of Mr, Howbray as official trustee in the estate of John White has been confirmed. The said Juhn White intends to apply to pass his last examination on the 30th inst.
.Recently it appears a large seal, which had been caught off theOtago Gas-works, is of the species known to fishermen as the " Si/ver ?eal," being in colour a dull yellowish white, with a few irregular dark patches on the body. The animal, which is a female, and' is 7ft. in length, is confined in a Inrge ziuc-lined cases in the shop of Mr. Jewitt, it snapped furiously when the cover of the case was lifted, emitting at the same time a loud hoarse bark, not much unlike that of a large dog.
