SUICIDE AT GREAT BARRIER.
The following communication has been received this morn:-_g by the Conmrssioner of Police from Tryphena, Great Barrier :—
" Mr. Samuel Ba^'ey, late a labourer at the Gas-works, Auckland, arrived about three months ago, just recovering from a ft of insanity, and continued perfectly well till March 17, when he began to show symptoms of wandering again, and on Sunday, March 20th, he went iuto the bush, and although he was followed witlr _ half an hour, he could not be found. On fiad'ng that he was
not to be seen, four people went ' . search of him, but did not succeed in finding him till March 24th, when he was found by his brother, Mr. Robert Bailey, and Mr. Benjamin Sanderson, ly:"ig on his back with a razor in his hand, with which he appeared to have committed suicide by cutting his throat. He was left untouched till seen by six witnesses, whose names are appended, and by whom his remains were carried to an outhouse, and subsequently interred on the 25th." Mr. Commissioner Naughton is send, ing down a constable by the return boat, in order to inquire fuioher into this matter.
