March 16. In the Assembly Mr. Fellows intimated his intention of putting a motion on the paper for an annuity to Lady Darling. Captain Graham has been acquitted of negligence. Mr. Gale, the aeronaut, will shortly ascend at Ballarat. A squatter in the western districts has called a-meeting of his creditors. The Commercial Bank drafts on London have been returned, owing to Draper's malpractises. March 17. The Legislative Assembly is likely to vote the six months' supplies asked for by Ministers. The financial year commences in July, when fresh Estimates will be introduced. To-day is a partial holiday, and celebrated with picnics, &c. Cornsacks and coffee are firmer since our mail advices. The Geelong Corporation have decided upon lighting the town with gas instead of kerosene as heretofore. The Horticultural Show is being held. The exhibits are good and attendance large. The You Yangs, steamer, has taken several passenger, for the Californian route. There was a holiday in the public offices, and a picnic in honor of the day passed off well. Deffinger, of the Virago, has been acquitted of fraud, but found guilty of a criminal assault. Harris and Hewitt run off the dead heat on the 2nd of April. Mr. Charles Matthews appears on the 9th April. The markets are very quiet. March 18. The mails for the Wonga Wonga, for Europe and America, leave on Saturday per Alexandra, and overland on Monday. Milesian won the Kyneton Handicap. The Government have published a " Handbook of Victoria " for circulation in England. The members of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church at Ballarat have discovered that many voting papers for church officers have been forged. The Australia Felix Hotel, with four shops in Bourke-street, realised at auction £16,000. Day, the jockey, is still unconscious, but shows signs of rallying. An express train, bringing the Governor from Kyneton races, killed a man crossing the line. Studmann has been committed for the murder of his wife at Talbot, by shooting her when scuffling with another man. Isaacs Solomons, in the malt trade, has called a meeting of his creditoi'3—liabilities, £25,000. The markets are unchanged.
