GOLDFIELDS REWARD COMMISSION.—Monday.
The Commissioners met at ten o'clock this morning. CLAIM OF WILLIAM! HAZLITT. Claimant attended and made a lengthened statement to the Commie sioners of having prospected at the Thames district and the Upper Thames since 1853, in which year he found alluyial gold in considerable quantities in the Upper Thames. He detailed the interviews he had with the authorities with the view of having the country thrown open for gold-mining. The claimant called George Clarke and John Reed as witnesses in support of his claim. CLAIM OF JAMES CRAWFORD. Claimant attended, and made a statement to the effect that he had been working at the Karaka and Waiotahi Creeks before the field was thrown open. He called Charles Craw ■ ford to give evidence, but his testimony by no means tended to substantiate the claimant's case. The Commissioners adjourned shortly before live o'clock until ten this morning.
