MEETING

A meeting of the General commit t-ie of the Akaro* centennial was held cm luesday evening when there were pieacnl Mr F. Davis, Mayor (in chair) Motdames W. A. Newton, J. Prenderga> e t, P. G. Riches, J. E. Armstrong, Misses E. Lc T ; evre, D. Leete, E. JV:obson, Dr. W J. Edginton, Messrs $. A. Newton, Rev. Father C'Meeghan A. Shuttleworth; J. P. Mcßride. E. G&it, R. Bruce, Mr and Mrs W. E. M. Jacobson, Messrs L. J. v angioni and P G. Riches (Joint Hon secretaries). .Apologies were received from' Mr J. E. Armstrong, Mr and Mrs H. J. Le Lkvre, A.rchdcacon Petrie and Mr F. A I'mstrong. Excursion Fares The Hon. D. G. Sullivan, Minister for Railways wrote in regard to the application for concession fares to dependents of early pioneers to Akaroa, that lie could not grant special fares in this case as there were other celebrations and he could not establish a precedent

Centenary Memorials

The City clerk, Christchurch, wrote asking for a list of Memorials that were ' be erected in the district. The services of an architect had beeri obtained through the centennial committee so that memorials could be erected of a better design. Plans could be obtained from the central committee at Wellington.

Gifts of Historical Value

Mr W. Jacobson reported that Mr J. W. A. of Stoney Bay West was willing to hand over a number of articles or historical interest for the Early Settlers Hall. The articles included a seal two hnudred years old, a axe, a Scotch plaid 10" x 20" which Mr James Hay had procured for his father nnd a writing deA dating bacic to the time of George I. The family was willing to hand over all these articles. It was decided that a letter of thanks be forwarded to Mr J. W. A. Boleyn and family for these valuable gifts. Mr W. Jacobson also reported that Mi.-. Waghorn vas collecting materials for the history of the Little Aka-loa-Chorlbni district.
