SALE OF STUD SHEEP

AUSTRALIAN PURCHASES j • j What i.s considered to be one of the i most valuable cargoes of livestock j ever carried by the Wanganella left j Wellington last night. The shipment ' which was arranged by the Stud j Stock Department of Messrs Wright, j Stephenson ana Co. Ltd., comprises | stud rams and ewes of the following i breeds: Romneys, Southdowns, Border j Leicesters and Ryelands. Included also | arc five colts and one filly, also one j large Black boar. j Notable consignments are 50 stud 1 mated Romney Marsh ewes from R. ' I Oakley, Rakaia, which are being ! shipped to South Australia. Then special, superior quality Romney I Marsh ewes from the well-known Te Marania Stud of E. D. Warburton, Iviwitea, and 20 stud mated ewes from W. H. Gibson, Kiwitea, these two lots being bound for Australia. Included in the Southdowns are 171 sheep from the Ellis Brothers' dispersal sale bound for Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia, Western Australia and Tasmania, seven stud ewes mated to the imported Aldenhani ram bred by Mr Walter Price of Kimbolton road, Feilding, also bound for Tasmania, as is a ram bred by Sir William Perry. The Matatua Stud of Mr James Knight, Feilding, is also represented by a stud ram which is bound for Victoria. Mr W. Kennedy, Bayswater, Otautau, is shipping to Tasmania what has been said to be the first Border Leicester ram m New Zealand to be exported to that State. This ram was purchased at a very high figure. Ten Ryeland ewes were secured from the noted Hawkes Bay stud of E. Averill and Son, and. have been secured for a Victorian buyer. The liv'e colts and the filly were purchased at'the annual yearling sales and have ken pasturing in the North Island and are now being despatched to their individual purchasers. The Large Black boar which is an especially typical animal, was bred by Mr G. M. Whitelock, of Palmersion North, and is consigned to Victoria. The majority ol' the above stock, with the exception of" the Killeymoon were purchased by Australian buyers who came over for the Killeyniooji sale and remained in the Domi":on visiting- the various studs and studying New .
