Dance.—A very succesful dance was held in the Oddfellow's Hall, Akaroa on Tuesday night in aid of the Akaroa Silver Band. Mr J. Drummond acted as M.C. andi the music was provided by the Reveller's Band, Le Bon's Bay. . Holiday Weather.—There are a large number of visictrs in Akaroa many coming down after Xmas day The sunny weather yesterday was much appreciated, but it was too cold for bathing. More summer heat is required for the holidays. Akaroa Silver Band.—The Akaroa Silver Band is now within £7 or £8 of paying for the instruments brought over two years ago. The amount incurred was £240 and extra instruments have been bought, so that the performance is a very creditable one indeed. Some members of the Akaroa band committee have been very active and much credit !■:. due to them for the excclleit iinancial. position oi the Band to-day. Akaroa Ladies' Rest Room—Visitors to Akaroa state that while they find the Ladies' Rest Room a welcome addition to the town and realise the necessity of having the building locked at night, they find that the room is not opened till about 9.30 a.m. Many who are abroad much more early would like the room opened at 8 a.m. No doubt the matter could be adjusted to the satisfaction of early visitors. Thrips in Cocksfoot.—The opinion of Mr R. McGillivray, Fields Superintendent for Canterbury, that heavy rain will check thrips has been borne out in the past few weeks. It is , noticeable that they are not going to be the pest they were last year. Cocksfoot growers state that there always has been thrips in cocksfoot paddocks, but that its appearance is seasonable. It is thought probable that the harmful effects are only noticeable on very rare occasions.
