A VISITOR'S IMPRESSION OF AKAROA
AKAROA, LAND OF SUNSHINE At the foot of lofty peaks, nestles Akaroa Where peace > and quietness reign supreme, and will for ever more. "Tis there the cool blue water ripples in the bay As white sailed yachts and launches Go gliding every day. 'Tis there the stately poplars wava gently in the breeze High above the cherry and the spreading walnut trees. As little red-roofed houses peep shyly at the sun, While all around them orchards ; seem guarding everyone. Away- back in the native- bush one! hears the bell-bird' singing, And sending forth its carillon notes that echo and go ringing. While through that native fairy hand a babbling stream doth flow, That rushes gaily through the ferns And is ever on the go. ; —ALICE M. GRAY, j Johnsonville, Wellington.
