Annual Report and Balance
Sheet.
The Hon;. Sec. read the. annual report and balance sheet. Th 2 balance sheet showed a debit ol 4s 6d after payment of all liabilities. The annual report was as follows : —
"The annual regatta was held on New Year's Day, 1935, in good [weather. There was a fair attend an:;e and the annual fixture provided an interesting day for visit ing oarsmen and yachtsmen., as \vell as for the visitors to Akaroa The officials again carried' out ;their various duties with despatch and ail events were ccntio.led without any hitsh whatever. An
tlteration to the progianime wa ; suggested by Mr Ke.teven. This was" that the Maiden Pair Oar should be. deleted and a L gntweight Maiden Four sub titut r d This can: be considered when the programme is review: d. Akaroa Boating Club was tne most successful club in rowing events. They tied with Avon n DjC.L. Cup points and won £24 in prize money. Other club winnings were : Avon £I's, Union £9 and Canterbury £10. Tre sailing race was won by Mr E. J Kingston's "Miro." It is suggested that the race is too long, and that a race of 2 rounds would be quite long enough. The thanks of the club are due to the donors to the prize fund for their generous support. This makes tae holding of the regatta possible. Donations received last year amounted to £50 4s, compared with £35 4s '6d last yesr. The thanks of the club is also due to the collectors for their energy. Dance receipts were short by £3 on the prvious year. It would be wise for the. club to consider a special effort to restore the funds to a sounder position. The correspondence will show that several Christchurch clubs have. asken that the regatta be. held on Boxing Day this year. Whle this might be quite suitable this year, it would clash, with the Takamatua 'Sports every second year, as the sports have to be run to suit tides. While wishing to meet the Christchur ch cluls' w she ') it would not be wise under the circumstances to depart from Ist January. In concru inn 'we wish to thank all those who supported the regatta last year and look for ward to a continuance of that support in the future."
Date, of Regatta
letters were received, from the Cure Canterbury and: SumnerRedcliffs clubs advocating that the date of the regatta should be changed from New Year's Day to Boxing Day, pointing out as the reason that owing to the Christmas holidays rowing men found it interferred with their training It was reported that the Rowing Association did not approve, of the change and it was decided to hold the regatta on New Years Day. Control of Regatta. The Cha'rrnan, Mr D;>vh, £Ug gested the Boatjing Club should
take, cha: g"3 of the regatta. H's
said it was most difficult to carry on and he considered the cl"ib should at least give their hall free for the regatta night dance
After some discussian the Boat ing Club members held a meeting and decided that the hall should be free for the use. of the Regatta Club on regatta night.
It was decided the Regatta b held on Ist January, j9-36.
