RETIRING BOROUGH COUNCIL
FELICITATIONS BY MAYOR AND COUNCILLORS. At Ihe meeting of the Borough 'Council, t'he last .b erf ore the coming election's, 'the 'Mayor and 1 .Councillors made reference toi the work carried 'out by the (Council during its term of office. The IMlayor, Mr !F. Davis, said a® •tihis was the last meeting of the pre® ent counicili he took the opportunity ■of thaniking them all for what, they had accomplished) during their term of office atndS what they considered in thei best interest® of 'the Borough. They toad, he said-, gome through a time of 'difficulty when rents had not 'been forthcoming and they had done the best they coulid on a smaller income. He was pleased: there was to he a conites't for the mayoralty, as he understood! ,Cr. Vangioni 1 was standing, and 1 be thought this 'was the right spirit. He hoped there would also be an election Ifor the' councillors. He would! not worry ilf not re-elcted though he had enjoyed' his term of office. He thanked! all) for the honest support given him during his term as mayor. iCr. Vanigioni 'thanked 1 the Mayor for hfsi remarks. Whatever happened ihe said, they wouldi all do their best. Cr. H. Nelson Wright congratulated the Mayor >om his conduct of the Council] meetings. He was again standing for the Council though he would "be aiway for six months. iCr. R. ißruce 'thanked 'tihe Mayor for the courtesy be had always extend' ed 'tdwards him and! for his remarks. They had' been a happy family and he fhcped there would he am election o'f the Council. He extended to Cr H. Nelson Wright his best wishes for his trip t!a England and said 1 he hoped he w.ou'!!di return much benefitted thereby. Cr. Nelson Wright thanked Cr Bruc a for his good wishes. Councilillors [Clements, iMcNahb and Hoffmanl allli intimated they would stand again and thanked 'the 'Mayor for his thanks to them as councillors ,VO|T|OS OF TEAiN'KS. 'Or. iMidNa'bb moved' a vot,e of thanks to the "iAkaroa M'aiF for their xeports otf iCouneiH mee'tinig; seconded by iCr, 'Vangioni 1 and carried'. Mr W. Jacolbson acknowledged the vote of thanks. ICr. .'Clements moVed' a 1 vote of thiainiks to the Town clerk and staff, Mr iP. iG. Riches aciknoiwledging- same. The (Mayor, in supp'Ortimg- thie motion acknowledging' the igocd' work of the Town Oerk 'and staff said their gardener's work was much admired biy visitors anidl the foreman and assistant foreman and staff had rendgood service'.
